HIPAA

HMS is a Health Care Clearinghouse and thus a Covered Entity as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). As such, HMS must comply with many of the provisions of HIPAA, though not those that apply only to healthcare providers and/or health plans.

HMS was in full compliance with the Transaction and Code Set Rule, the Privacy Rule, and the Security Rule of HIPAA by the applicable deadlines, and HMS continues to be in full compliance with these Rules. Likewise, HMS anticipates no difficulty complying fully with the National Provider Identifier Rule by the May 2007 deadline.
